Firewall configuration Do you have a document on how to config a firewall for Phex? An URL? I have opened port 1080 for both UDP and TCP, but still no go... Thanks |
Is there anybody out there?? Come on, please, people. There must be someone out there that knows how to make Phex work through a firewall? It's not actually documented as far as I can see, so how do I do it? |
Ports You need to open the network port of phex. Go into options -> network and copy the port number. That is the port you need to open. If you are also in a LAN or WLAN you need to forward that port to your internal IP-Address. |
Port 1080 is only used for SOCKS proxys.. Use the Phex listening port like ZwiSter described. Gregor |
What about authentication with the firewall? Is that supported, or will it simply reject my connection. I'm still not getting a connection to any hosts... Zeeker7 |
I assume you dont need any kind of SOCKS proxy to reach the internet. In this case you can completely turn SOCKS off and therefore there is no need to authenticate to SOCKS proxies. Maybe you should tell us more about your network and firewall environment. Are you using Phex at home with a simple router with integrated firewall or are you in a complex company environment with multiple proxies, firewalls and restrictions... Gregor |
OK, I'm an running network of about 80 workstations, all W2K (for the time being) with a W2K server. My internet access comes from a Mandrake 8.2 server, with shorewall as firewall, configured to ask for authentication which is verified against the W2K active directory. I want to allow Phex only access from my machine for the obvious reasons, since it's use must be stricktly controlled so as to not kill by bandwidth (which is a SDSL line to and ISP running as about 300kbs max). I toyed with the idea of adding a socks5 service to Madrake (actually installed it, but can't get it going, although I haven't spent much time on it. Thanks again |
