Want to share some tips

Obviously I'm probably one of the least qualified people on here to offer tips on Phex but I still wanted to share with everyone (particularly those who will read this in the near future and are even newer than I).

Anyway, after finally getting a good connection and actually having incoming connections I would still only get the occasional good download. I'd try downloading all sorts of things and nada. Tonight I finally found something that works....I'm getting DL's on almost everything now. First, I re-ran the program located here http://trustyfiles.com/help-sw-xpsp2.php and I changed the number of consecutive connects to 100. I then changed the Phex max number of connects to 99 (the max).

Next, I allowed and forced my computer to be an ultrapeer (I have 1.5Mbps connection) and raised the number of connections considerably. Suddenly I had a lot more success. It wasn't enough though so I played around some more.

Next, I changed the connection timeout to 25 seconds. WOW! This made a big change! I guess some hosts don't connect within the 12 second default time because I got a hell of a lot better results.

Lastly I maxed out the number of global DL connections. This made a bit more difference.

Altogether this made a HUGE difference. Previously I would get MAYBE one download out of a hundred to work. Now, I'm getting probably 1 out of 4 and my bandwidth is usually maxed out as well.

I like success! :D

Thanks for these great tips!
Would you mind adding them into our Wiki

I'd be happy to but I can't figure out that Wiki page. I've read everything and have even used the Sandbox but I don't get where I'm supposed to put this info.

Start with creating a Link somewhere like this

[[Name of new Page]]

Save and click on the Link. You now get an empty new page that you can edit.

Here is a quick editing overview

Ok, I didn't get it at first. I had no idea how Wiki worked and nothing I read explained that there was only that one main page and that all others branched off of that. I think I did it right...I hope. The links appear and the pages show up, I'm just not sure I added it to the main page as I should have. Let me know if I need to alter it in any way.

Looks good... great!
I moved it to the main page. It was protected before so you couldnt add it yourself.

Thanks...

I added a few comments here and there, where I could answer something.

I hope you don't mind.

Hey, not at all...isn't that what a Wiki is for? (at least that's the gist I got when I read the tutorial)

Wiki is just a free encyclopedia that allow user to modify the page at will unless the author of the wiki dont allow it

Wiki become popular

Not necessarily an encyclopedia, for there are all types of pages using wiki-software, but it catches the spirit and teh wikipedia is the most well know wiki.

Some people also write collaborative stories on wikis, or discuss strategy or similar, sometimes limited to a local LAN.

But the spirit is: Every visitor can change the content of pages, with the least possible barriers.
