How exactly do search queries work on Phex?

I've been using Limewire for quite a while, I just started using Frostwire, and after hearing so many good things about Phex I decided to try that out tonight. Specifically, I've heard it's much better at finding current sources for a download, and that's what I'm after.

I've read the documentation on the website, and I'm not sure I understand exactly how searches work on Phex. The specific problem I've had with Limewire / Frostwire, that I'm hoping Phex will solve, is this: In Limewire, when you start a download and then lose the source, and set the download to "find more sources", it is in theory supposed to monitor the network and resume the download when it finds a new source. Sometimes it does, but most of the time it doesn't. If you manually run a new search for that same file and sources are found, THEN the download resumes automatically.

This is really a pain for rare / hard-to-find files, because you just KNOW that sources come and go, and you miss the download because you didn't run a search just then. SO... does Phex REALLY monitor the network, and will it REALLY resume a download when new sources pop up? And is there any way to make the program repeat a search every half-hour or so?

Whew that got long. Thanks for any help, and thanks for the great program!

Phex monitors the network, and it will resume the download when it finds new sources. You can trigger a hidden search on the download or you can search yourself, both will cause phex to collect sources. Additionally Phex keeps sources much longer then Limewire and just raises the retry intervall for every failed attempt.

There are no automated searches every half-hour or so. Thats mainly because this is called bad behaivoir and we already had much troubles with other vendors for doing this a few years ago. Phex wants be a nice player without hurting the network.

Gotcha. If it works like you say, there's no need for automated searches. I was just going on the experience I've had with Limewire.

When you say "trigger a hidden search", is that the "search" option you get when right-clicking on a download?

Thanks...

Yes... the only difference is that results are collected internally and are not visible. You can reconfigure the search term of the dowload.

Can you explain "...results are collected internally and are not visible." a bit more? Please. I haven't been able to find anything specific in the help files that speaks to this.

TIA

There is nothing to explain... results are collected but not visible... finished.

You haven't found anything in the help files since there are no help files.

BTW: the thread is a year old... things have changed too much anyway...

Maybe I should have explicitly stated

I realize that; however, since the ability to search from within the Download tag is still a viable option, I thought the question valid. I just wanted some more info with respect to the search function from within the Download tab. If the date on the thread bothers you, I start a new thread.

Sorry... I was a bit stressed while writing ;)
When you click the search button in the download tab. Phex will start a search with the search term configured for the selected download. Matching results are added to the candidate list. But the full search results are not displayed anywhere like for standard searches.
If you manually do a standard search, results that match any of the downloads are also added to the candidates. So it is basically the same logic like for standard search, just that the results are not visible.
