Torrent Compatibility? I have Phex 2.8.10.98 and was wondering if Phex had support for reading Torrent files... If not it should :p a nice request and almost essential to file-sharing!! -DJ Rizzle |
Phex doesn't read out torrents, as (afaik) they lack a sha1-hash, which is crucial to start a file-specific search in Gnutella. Different from BitTorrent, Gnutella is a network with an efficient internal search-mechanism, so you don't open a torrent, but simply start a search for the content you want, instead (and if someone shares it, you will likely find it and get to download it). If you need torrent-support, why not use two programs, Phex for Gnutella, another one for torrents? Integrating torrents into Phex would be a hell of a lot of work - work which can be better used for making the Gnutella network more efficient still, and there are some really great bittorrent-programs out there already. A work in progress to create a torrent alternative for gnutella can be found at http://www.freebase.be/ , where you can find magnet-links for popular free windows software. Also there are magma-lists, with which you can also serve content just like in a torrent file, but they aren't that widespread yet (at this time, Phex can read and create them). |
