Don't use Bearshare for testing, it's not a "friendly" client. Use something else http://www.gnutelliums.com/

Well first of all, I've been using connect1.gnutellanet.com, not a client. Second of all, the protocol specs don't say anything about getting disconnected for idling...

But if you connect to a hostcache like connect1.gnutellanet.com once it sends a list of IPs it disconnects you since that's all this type of host does. Then your servent needs to make use of those IPs sent to you.
