Distributed computing!

I think one of the greatest potentials of the gnutella network is distributed computing. I do alot of video rendering and would love to be able to plug into the network and speed up my rendering time. I m sure this would be a difficult ideo to implement but with the increase in newtork efficiency it may be possible.
Any thoughts?

Hi!
i've been thinking about this subject for some time now.
I'm planning on making my master thesis on a platform for distributed computing over P2P file sharing networks.

I'm preparing the ideas and soon will share them on the development forum to get some comments.

This is definitely a vast and fascinating area to get into. The tricky part is allowing this type of behavior in a secure way so that it can't be exploited by malicious nodes. Basically, if you're allowing people to take over your CPU, you have to really, really trust those people, which is a big challenge on a distributed network.

So, this would take a considerable amount of thought, but it would be a really, really amazing feature!

Thanks.

Hi!
As I stated before I'm doing a master thesis on this subject.
Here is my proposal for a Distributed client on P2P networks, specially over Gnutella (GnutellaHTC).

Give me some comments on it :)

this is a nice idea and cud be aplied to meny things but problems come up
if some one has a vires or disconts meny thing can go rong also y probley need fast internet also i wudent want my comp to be wurking fore some one els whithout my prmison allso it cud be used to get in to uther ppl's comps but in thery it sounds good mabey p2p net wurks cud be used to host web sites mabey making a howle new net mabey

It might be possible, to allow people, who want to use your CPU only a small amount, till you get some resources from them yourself (which would need quite some tracking, but then noone could just steal all your processor tme). Maybe your neighbors could tell you, what they got from whom, and you could give those people CPU-time.

Many Gnutella Clients have a stable GUID, so they could be tracked by that. If you'd allow 1000% if the CPU time you got from them + x (the starting amount) + xytime/MB*MB downloaded from that client ( you would have a way to stop people from stealing your time ).

That means a scientist could give bandwidth to the network and get CPU-time for it.

PS: A search for gnuhtc*.gr would simply be "gnuhtc .gr", because afaik "*" isn't supported.
