Jtella is using Java and Phex is using Java - so you have an example in Java, if you want to know how the Phex developer connect to gnutella - LOOK in the source it can´t be such a big difference... I don´t know the source but it is under GPL so it should be well documented...

What I don´t understand is that you want to analyze TTL for schoool but it seems that you don´t know or are still learning programming... what is the target? What are you learning? I hope you don´t search for anybody who does your homework...
