Gnutella for IP Telephony????
 

Hi there,

Do you think it is possible to use Gnutella as a network for IP Telephony?

Anyone want to give it a go?

I do hope so. But I'm presently not sure of that. It would afaik only work, if you included additional meta-information aber each caller. Then IP-phone wouldn't be hard, as you only need a simple p2p-connection, for which you don't need Gnutella.

Using Gnutella (the network) for IP Telephony doesn't make sense. Adding an IP Telephony feature to the clients would be possible.

With some tweaking it could enable you to find the ones you want to connect to.

No, definitely not. It's not reliable enough for that. If you want to find contacts you want a service that will reliably tell you whether or not that contact is online/available or not. You don't want a 50% chance that your contact just didn't receive your query.

The way I interpret the answers, you believe Gnutella could be used, but in best case only for finding the people you want to contact.

I realise there is a huge contradiction in interests. Using Gnutella for file sharing you want to be as anonymous as possible, while using Gnutella for IP Telephony you want to be as famous (known to the network) as possible. :(

Would you recommend defining a new protocol (ie. Gnuphotella :cool: ) with special focus on maximizing the promotion of peers in the network.
