Encryption is only useful to ensure, that your provider doesn't sniff your transfered data.

It would be useful, because it ensures, that noone knows, what is being transfered except the down and the uploader.

If you keep those from knowing their respective IPs, someone would have to control one of those and have a way to discover the IP of the other one. Else they would have no chance.
