New Program, Gimme P2P, better than limewire. - (Moved from LimeWire - Open Discussion Topics section)

Hi,:D My new program has been released on SF.net
Its called Gimme P2P, its betterthan limewire because it has both Gnutella 1 and Gnutella 2 networks, it is safer, easier and also just as fast,
To take a better look goto

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimmep2p

or

thankyou, and please download.:yahoo:

Erm what do you mean better. Any program can potentially connect to more than one network. Questions is ... when running gnutella 1, are all other networks disabled? If not, that means that gnutella will suffer due to requirements of other networks. Become like RAZA (ShareAza) which has a poor implementations of gnutella 1 & is a leech because it allows it to use more than one network at one time. And such networks require it upload at same rate it downloads so nothing or very little is left over for gnutella 1. That's why multinetwork p2p programs usually don't work. They compromise quality on one or the other network.

Qualify yourself. How is it safer? Does it have a built in virus checker? If not, it is no safer. Why is it better than LW? LW betas have built in torrent support. Does yours? And how does it compare?

How is your program easier to use? How is it just as fast? Sounds like a lot of marketing bullsh*t to me!

So you copy a part of LW's code & then pretend it's your own & is better than LW. Prove it's better! Your words are like I read in a magazine ad, or like I filter out of the forums everyday of spam advertising BS & generally can't deliver anyway or has some bug or problems that even the author isn't aware of.

You posted in the LimeWire section ... attempting to scam others to your idea. And rub insult upon LW. Not one thing you said was positive about LW. So wtf are you posting in the LW section?

I'm all for gnutella dev & peoples versions but not the way you've approached the forums.

Edit: Here's another spam by same member: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=62187

my program allows you to use both networks or 1, and it has not a single drop of limewires code in it, if you downloaded it you would see it is easier, and just as fast, try and youll see,
Yes it has an inbuilt virus checker, and a checker for bad downloads, belive me, how many times have you used limewire and found you play a song that isnt a song, its a text document advertising ******, or play a video with bad quality, download a program with viruses, or get a song with squealing in it, my program has more serach results and more stable, and what do you think lemonwire is or frost wire, eeerrr RIP OFF, i have no ripped code, 100% pure my code except for GnucDNA.
It also has inbuild IP blocks with over 1000 already keyed in for safer downloads, word filter, child mode, download rate and upload rate, ultrapeer mode, multiple download from peers, or single for modem users, and is very versatile, so dont judge a book by its cover, or your stupid knowledge.
I rest my case!

So what virus checker do you use. Do you update it monthly or weekly like most virus programs? Is the user given such notification? Do you double-check these.
Some simple questions:
How many peers does it connect to? Where did you get your block list from?
What is child mode? Can you define it for us? Do you have a wiki of descriptions & definitions & faq?

Where's the linux version? Where's the mac version?

Ok maybe I'm being a little hard. But I'd like to see the program properly checked out as to its characteristics by people who have tested most gnutella programs for plusses & faults. Your thread would have been better suited in the gnutella dev discussion section or that area. Rather than putting it into a specific client section, thus rubbishing that particular client without any evidence of performance. Sorry if I seem hard, but I have to weigh things up as they appear. I'd look forward to a proper tech check on your program. Will look forward to such a report. ;) :) Perhaps your program will get all +'s. Time will tell. ;) :)

mmm, only a little, you see im new to all of this, ive been using Gnutella for like 3-4 years, like started with napster, then KaZaA, then 2 years ago LimeWire, anyway, to asnwer your questions, the virus checker isnt really built in, the program works with your anti-virus and scans the file before completion or execution.
The IP blocks were on GnucDNA and the child mode is a mode where it only lets certain words to be used, which can be defined in word filter, it also only allows connection to G2.
umm, if you are using it at the moment post some screenshots of it like while downloading stuff, thanks!:D

 I tried this program, and i noticed some of things wrong off the start. I searched for the FF album Arc*****e, and all i got were a couple wma files and the rest were zip files (i searched under audio) and when i picked audio, the fields for artist, album, and track title were at the bottom of the scrolling window. These files, only one of them were above 1,000 kb, and that was a zip file. Then i searched for the band itself and the files that came up were under 500 kb, plus it said gnutella unknown (on the left). I searched for other kinds of files, and i get the same file sizes for those. I also noticed that i couldnt tell whether i was connected or not at the beggining. There was no connection status bar that i noticed. After trying to download a file anyway, no antivirus scan took place, and i do have an anti-virus program. I'm not trying to knock your P2P, I think its great that you created a new p2p program, its just things i think could be made a little easier, and the file kinks could be worked out. I will say however that the basic layout is simple, plus I believe you can search the internet from GimmeP2P from the home section. Just lookin' out, tryin' to help. Keep at it.

Yep this program is only GnuCDNA. I could tell from the screenshot Wow

Nothing to be seen here, go along....

Beside aff1993, I don't see the source code on SF.net

Well. Tried it. First impression bad. Needs work. A lot of info I would want from a P2P program is unavailable.

Did not get any Gnutella connects only G2 for the first 10-15 minutes. disconnects form Gnutella nodes easily and sticks with the G2 nodes

No Global Up/Down info

No number of files shared info

No number of nodes that you are connected to info

Details pop up (when hovering your mouse pointer over a search result) is an eyesore

Downloaded files get saved by default into the programs folder (What's up with that???)

Under the blocked hosts the window is too small and there is no way to make it bigger

When setting it to minimize to system tray on closing, it does not minimize to the system tray but to the taskbar

When closing the programs some of the prefs went back to default on next startup:

Under general settings:
Both checkmarks that I had removed regarding the magnet links came back.

Under Network setting:
Max number of Leaf nodes (which I had set to 50) was 200 again.

I BTW tried twice to make sure that I hadn't forgotten to press save.

This is a quote from your helpfile:
Quote:

Shared Directories
Add the directories containing the files you wish to share here. Your downloads directory is shared by default. Remember that filesharing is a give-and-take game. If nobody shares, nobody gets! So rememeber: Share!
Now if that was true. Why can I download two songs, close the program, reopen it, go to shared (Where I guess I would be able to see which files I am sharing) and not see a single file??

--------------------------------------------

Connection is configured right. (I run other P2P programs perfectly)
I know what settings to use.
XP MCE (Service pack 2)
1 GB RAM
Sygate Firewall
Billion Router
Using portforwarding

---------------------------------------------------

Guess you still have some work to do

A couple of questions though:

Do I share partial downloads with this program?
if so do I have to add the partial folder?
And also shouldn't I have a choice in the matter if I want to do that or not?

The records for uploads. Are they kept upon reopening the program or deleted like in Limewire?

aff1993 October 11th, 2006 11:06 PM

those stupid .wmv files are everywhere, i think it is all just *** spam, and it P***** me off to, but i need to change networks to something like limewire, all the people i download off say client:shareaza 2.2.1.0 or morpheus, if you want better serach results ill make a version just for gnutella 1, im working on it now, thanks for the constructive critisism, thanks
aff1993:D
