LuckyWire

I read on the LuckyWire home page that it was a part of the Gnutella network. Is this true? If it is ,why won't it load any songs to select from anymore?

LuckyWire is one of many dozens of LimeWire clones (usally based off LW 4 but LuckyWire is based off LW 5.) So yes it is a part of the Gnutella network. :) I still see people using it from time to time.
Are you having connection problems or download problems?

You need to be connected to the gnutella network before you can search for files.

If it is connection problems, try dropping a gnutella.net file into the LuckyWire preferences folder. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html and it might just get lucky. :D I presume the LuckyWire preferences folder IS called LuckyWire, so you only need to make that much of an adjustment to the guideline suggestions given in the link about replacing the gnutella.net file.

It worked fine until about June. When I log in the bars at the bottom left where it shows loading from low to turbo don't come on. Then if I click the key for new audio, a message pops up that the new songs won't show until luckywire has finished loading.

Yes it is a connection problem. Sometimes the connection file goes stale.

Did you try replacing the gnutella.net file?

Make sure LuckyWire is closed before doing the following.

The .net file extension of the gnutella.net file might be hidden depending on your system settings.

Download the gnutella file: My Files or alternative link gnutella.net

If using Windows XP or earlier:
Click on Start > click on run > type %appdata% into the text field > ok.
You should now see a lot of folders - find the one named LuckyWire, open it & you'll see your gnutella.net file inside that folder. Delete that gnutella.net file & replace it with the one that you've just downloaded.

For Vista or later:
Click the Start button > type %appdata% into the text field > ok.
You should now see a lot of folders - find the one named LuckyWire, open it & you'll see your gnutella.net file inside that folder. Delete that gnutella.net file & replace it with the one that you've just downloaded.

Then open LuckyWire and see if it connects. If LuckyWire does not connect during first opening (wait up to 30 minutes), then close LuckyWire and re-open a minute later. It should connect sometime after the second opening.

Late reporting:

Over a week ago, I installed LuckyWire on both my Windows XP's and the program refused to open complaining of an error. Perhaps this is only my issue.

But something I find very strange is LuckyWire maintains its settings/preferences folder in a folder called .luckywire in the user's documents folder. A very odd location to place a settings/preferences folder. And the concept of using a dot before the folder name was what LW used in early LW 4 versions. Whichever LuckyWire dev thought of that concept should probably take a closer look at GTK-Gnutella to see how to do it properly. :D (Though this might be a side-effect of newer Java installations under the newer Java ownership.)

Edit: I did manage to get LuckyWire running on a different Windows. However, with one exception, the only times LuckyWire connected was when I manually added hosts to the connection window that I knew were online at the time.
LuckyWire appears to be based on LimeWire 5.3 or earlier. It uses the Super duper advanced options in the settings preference options, which was renamed in later LW versions. The Windows LW Clone Connection Fix installer includes LuckyWire as an option to install for.

Despite a mac version of LuckyWire showing up several times in google searches, it appears the download link was dead or removed. It also seems LuckyWire has not been updated in 18+ months. I installed LuckyWire with hope their devs had actually looked at the code and realised a change was needed for the Java setting, not to mention the issue of the date of the connection file.

Totally off-topic: a week ago I thought I almost found a solution to the LW 5 & Java 7 problem .. being able to open LW 5/LPE directly without using the shortcut to the LW.java file .. and it worked, except torrent abilities were disabled ... I did not think many people would like that fix "lol".
