Which gnutella client is best for windows and linux?

I like limewire alot but I think it sucks that they did it in java. Java blows, it's so slow and inefficient. I really like the interface, reliability, stability, and features of limewire though. It's a really nice program I just wish they'd optimize it - it's SLOW (even on a 450 mhz).

What do you think are hte best for windows and linux (if different)?

Which have spyware?

What's the word on XoloX?

Morgwen April 7th, 2002 06:23 PM

You should check our polls!

Actually three clients contain spyware!

Limewire - the FREE windows version
Bearshare - optional
Morpheus - not sure

So is there anything wrong or any reason not to continue using it?

Know where to download hte last version?

Morgwen April 8th, 2002 05:04 AM

The only problem could be that you need a fresh host list... I will ask Moak to post his!

Morgwen asked me to post a hostlist.txt for Xolox, here:

All you have to do is replace your current hostlist.txt with fresh IPs. Open the hostlist.txt file in your Xolox folder with an editor (simple double click) and replace the content with the following encoded host caches. If it's not working I post my own hostlist.

O8H29NN;:6346
O9H29NN;:6346

Isn't that the same as changing the host cache servers like connect1.gnutellanet.com or is it more complicated with that client? Thanks for the info!!!!:)

Where did you get this info? Once you start using it will it automatically keep itself up to date or do you have to keep doing this?

Moak April 8th, 2002 10:28 AM

I did link to the refering post. The host caches will get fresh IPs for you, once you can't connect (never ever happened for me) replace the hostlist.txt again as described above.

What is the big deal about XoloX? Someone please tell me in detail what it does that other current clients don't

Pataya April 9th, 2002 11:40 AM

check it out yourself.

Rumours say Xolox will come back, like a Phoenix rising from the ashes.

The new XoloX better have ultrapeers, chat, user files browsing, GGEP, Download Mesh, Full meta-data support, file hashing as well as all of the other proposals at the GDF. It also better be less of a resource and CPU hog than it was before... otherwise it's nothing special.

If xolox does come back it will have whatever the developers decide it will have... and who are you to say what it BETTER have?

Unregistered April 9th, 2002 04:43 PM

XoloX has lots of problems, looks like a jr. programmer's first try at a gnutella client.
It stops and you have to wait to click on something because the socket library came from VB
you could write it in 2 minutes using VB
It has no features other than a basic client

This client is discontinued almsot 5 months ago... I remember the junior clients Limewire, bearshare etc. at this time they were crap!!!

The new version of Xolox will of course be 0.6 compatible! :)

Get your head out of your a**.

I'm simply stating the features it must have, if I were going to use it. If it doesn't have X features over X client, I wont use it.

Here are a few of the places to get a copy of Xolox.

ZeroPaid’s version of Xolox: www.zeropaid.com/xolox

Xolox_girl’s site: www.geocities.com/xolox_girl

Xolox fans: XOLOX fans

Xenomorph: Xenomorph.net

These are most of the main download sites; there are many more places to get a copy of Xolox.

Also I never stopped using Xolox, so here is a copy of my hostslist.txt:
