Anyone know of a Gnutella client that can display length and bitrate of MP3 files?
 

Hey anyone who reads this,
I was wondering if anyone had knowledge of a Gnutella client that could show the length and bitrate of mp3, or other, files in a search. This was a handy feature on napster, and since i figure that many gnutella users probably use it to share mp3's, it seems that someone might written or is writing a client that can do this.
It helps to avoid wasting time on downloading incomplete files, or files that have been ripped at undesirable bitrates.
If anyone knows anything please let me know.

I got so frustrated about the MP3 bitrates that I wrote a program to show this information regardless of which Gnutella client you use. The program adds bitrate to the end of the filenames:

The Blah Song.[128Kb 44KHz 5'10].mp3

If you searching gNet for "Blah", then add the keyword "44KHz" to get the files that have this bitrate information attached. It's starting to catch on, but obviously not everyone is doing this yet.

Why would anyone rip a MP3 at anything but the best rate, thus making a 4 MB file like all the rest? 4 MB is not a problem for even a 56K connection.

I think Gnotella puts the rates in a search return packet, but bearshare has most of the clients out there, you are screwed unless everyone agrees to not share crap or you use that nice program mentioned here.

I have a mp3 cd player (in other words I don't have to go to bulky wavs to play music with a cd!) and i find that unless you get an annoying backround tone with a lower quality there is almost no audible difference in qualities.

The only packet I have seen is from Gnotella or GNOT as the ID says in the packet. It returns the bitrates inbetween the 0000 after a file name. What clients show it? Gtk-Gnutella looks like they have it working but the version of Bearshare I have doesn't. Anyone else seen the bitrates in a Client?

Rottenchips.... what do you mean by the "best" rate... my ripping program will do 320kbps... i will admit if you are talking about 128kbps personnally don't like it, I can tell the difference between CD and MP3 in that case... but when you get to 192kbps theres no way in hell I could pick them apart. So really that's what I look for. Each person prefers a different quality and files size...I will agree on one thing though ripping anything at less than 128 is a big waste of time.
