Gnutella = Communism?

Thats what I thought as I heard first from the P2P technology. I mean, Gnutella is a real nice technology which gives the power (software, mp3 anything else) to us, the normal people. But many ppl are only using Gnutella to download and not to give. Thats why I think Gnutella wont work, just like Communism.
The ppls are greedy and only want to take but not give.
I only have a ISDN Connection but I am still sharing. I think everybody should share, no matter how much or how fast their connection is!

So please dont be a freeloader and contribute to keep it alive!

Communism did not fail, - the russian tanks did.

maybe it was a bad comparison - but i think the main idea of gnutella is the same. look at the stats on www.limewire.com.
There are about 239996 hosts but only 25000 hosts accepting connections. Why the hell that?
Because many ppl dont understand the idea of P2P filesharing.
Sooner or later the network will die out if we dont force the ppl to share (for example prevent user to shut off upload or kicking out freeloaders from the network.). But these methods are quite Stasi again :)

The gnutella host count at http://www.limewire.com is neither very accurate, nor reflects it the number of host accepting incoming connections. It just shows how many clients ever accepted incoming connections (leaf nodes don't ever accept incoming connection although many of them theoretically could od so).

this is a old argument, use search and find this over and over on this forum.
most L-users fear all and get a firewall, but never set it up right, so they are hiding and you don't get to connect.
as long as people can get something, they will mostly give back while online because it's not a big pain to share your folder.

so if you want to see more files, help teach more people how to set up a firewall or distribute a program that sets up popular firewall programs for them.

True. In fact, the URSS was not communist. They just made a totalitarian regime disguised with some Marxist ideas. When Stalin came there was hardly anything left of communist in the URSS.

I dont think thats the problem:
All people I know from my school never share.
If I ask them why they tell me: Why should I? It costs too much
bandwidth.

OK thats not wrong but if everybody thinks so you wont be able to download anything.

Look, Communism didnt work out really and Gnutella wont too.

you are right
all the gnutella users seem to have a IQ of around 50 anyway, so I give up
no one wants to give anything back, that's why usenet has shut down, and IRC/FTP trading has come to a complete halt, same will happen to gnutella
so it's time to go back to TV and beer
is the game on yet?
