Spurious search results

I have a slightly older client, like gnutella 0.85 or something, about 0.05 behind the current .. which won't install on my system because of dependencies, etc etc blah blah blah ...

Point is, when I search, I OFTEN get horrible floods of irrelevent files, coming from multiple different clients, eg morpheus, gnucleus da da da ...

Why?

I know that if I search for 'equivalent' or something I get heaps of files someone has labelled in their metainfo as being equivalent to something. Is this what is happening to me now? I am searching for 'kinks everybody happy'.

Have some fools labelled some files with meta info like 'everybody'? Why? Please stop!

Are newer clients making fuzzy matches, like it matched two words out of three, so that's a 'hit'?! Why?!!! PLEASE STOP!!!!

Developers? DO SOMETHING!!!

It would be cool if you tell use what you've searched for and what you got. There are some people out there who use malicious clients to spread spam over the network with links pointing to porn sites.
They just send a hit to all queries you send...
Just block those IPs.

No, that's not it, it's some dumb fuzzy search logic

Thanks for pointing that out, but it isn't anything like that.

Here is an example from right now:

I search for 'beautiful child' hoping to find the stevie nicks/Fleetwood Mack song of that title.

I do, but I additionally find several Beautiful South songs WITHOUT the word child in their title. So whoever replied has a client which matched on only one out of the two REQUIRED words.

These dodgy *******s were using gnucleus and morpheus, according to my gtk-gnutella client. There are a large number of spurious replies, from a large range of IPs, so I doubt that it's just some lone spammer. I don't have the bandwidth patience or spare time to try downloading any of these spurious replies, maybe someone else will.

OK now I get it...
Well, some clients split your search terms up when there is a blank space and use it as a OR.

So the client sent you queryhits from files which contained at least one of your word.

Its not that bad. At least it ensures that you get a result, if no one has the song you've been looking for, someone might have a song from the same artist.

Have you tryed to use "beautiful child" between quotations signs? I find it work quite well.
