Question host list

Hello,

my ISP (university) closed the "well known" gnutella ports like 6346 on their routers, so it seems that I cannot access the gnutella network anymore.
I think a solution could be to try to connect to hosts using different ports. I looked for host lists, but I could't find any. Can somebody help me?

thanks, Felipe

Cool

Hello!

If your ISP has closed port 6346 on their routers then you can no longer access Gnutella. You can only change the listening port that listens for other hosts but to connect to the Gnutella network you need port 6346.There is no other available. So it seems that you are stuck and unable to connect to Gnutella over your University network.

My suggestion would be that you either get yourself another ISP that provides ADSL service or simply to get yourself a modem connection for the soul purpose to access Gnutella.

Unhappy

Bad news. I have a 56kbit modem, but I would prefer 100mbit...
What if I find a host listenning on another port? Why isn't it possible to connect through this host to the Gnutella network?

thanks, Felipe

Of course you can connect to the Gnutella network if you find a host that is not using port 6346.
To make the search for hosts with different ports faster you can use Phex. It has a port filter that allows you to filter out all hosts with 6346. This way you will only try to connect to hosts with different ports.

Thanks for the tip! I installed Phex now, and added Port 6346 to the filtered ports list. But Phex is still trying to connect to various hostcaches through port 6346. When I disable auto connect, of course nothing happens. How can I find hosts using different ports?

thanks, Felipe

At gnutella uk they have a hosts file, they call it a gnutella.net file.
You can copy the adresses from that file and replace the adresses in your phex.hosts file.
With a bit of luck, you'll find hosts with a non 6346 portnumber.(use a tekst editor like notepad to open your phex.hosts file)

You can go to Phex download site at sourceforge and download a host list that contains many host. Also some users posted this host file to the Phex forum...
