problem connecting: are there other gates than the 6346?

hello!

I am a new Gnutella user, and I have a problem.
I am connected with a local universitary network in Gent, Belgium, from where we get to browse the world for free at cable speed.

This is all great, but now recently, the supervising authorities of the university have closed or banned or however the gate 6346 that lemonwire is using here. They have done the same with Kazaa and napster etc... because there is too much traffic and the emailing is ' endangered' because the downloads use all the space.

Is there any way to continue downloading on another gate? The limewire PRO version? Another downloading system?

Will you help me and the other 500 people that are using the universitary cable?

Thanx!

I don't know about the other programmes, but in Phex, Gnucleus and Shareaza you can change the portnumber.
Hoever you need the adresses from other clients with a different portnumber to get connected to, Phex has a handy portfilter

Yes there are plenty of ports. But you need someone on the outside on the right port as well as having your port configured to one that isn't firewalled.

got the same problem. but i know several ports, which are opened in our firewall, like 110, 1214... but i cannot get any gnutella client to connect using these ports, probably because i dont know hosts with opened ports like this.

is there any database for that or something help?

thx

Paradog gave me this link.....

I have exactly the same problem.... the port has been blocked by my company, and I would LURVE to be able to access Limewire....

Any comments? Any feedback? Would love to hear of a way around this problem...

Kind regards,

Another Student Blocked

I too, am a Student at a Major US University which is currently under a ban of file sharing programs. Not that I am a complete dumbarse, but I have tried and failed with: Gnuleus, Limewire, Bearshare and WinMX.

How do I get around this firewall?

frustrated

Like some of you i'm attending college, and they blocked off the ports via hardware (not sure which one)

I've tried using Phex, and WinMX...I got winMX to connect on the secondary line, but i couldn't get it to show results. (using port 1000) Phex doesn't even work.

IF you really want songs, use Filetopia, its one of the better programmed P2P programs, the only catch is that there is a limited amount of users, so choices are slim
