can't access page sent in email

I posted a question on 10/8 and on 10/9 received this email:

Iamnacho has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - can't execute downloaded programs - in the General Gnutella / Gnutella Network Discussion forum of Gnutella Forums.

This thread is located at:
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...1&goto=newpost

When I click on the link and am taken there, I get the messge that I am logged in but I am not allowed access to that page. Nor can I even find my original question when I go to the forum.

Please let me know what's the problem. Thank you.

That post has been closed.
We mods have a trash can where we move threads we want to delete into. The advantage of having a trash can is that you can restore the post in case you've decided wrong about it.

Your post was probably nasty so my evil partner has moved to somewhere you will never be able to reach ;)

message not nasty

My message was not nasty at all. I said that I am brand new to Gnutella and had just downloaded a file ; that there were a lot of winace files (whatever they are), and a wpwin10.exe file. When I double click on that .exe file, nothing happens. I just wanted to know if I'm doing something wrong, and also if I download a program, does the file sharer also include in a text file the registration number necessary to install and run it?

I am using LimeWire. As I said, I am brand new to this and am just asking for help, not saying anything critical or nasty. Thank you.

Muffie,

Your initial post (to which you are unable to reply) was moved to a "Trash Can" because it contains references to illegal activity. As a matter of fact, you last post does as well and will probably be moved or edited soon.

While you may be able to download applications such as Corel Office 2000 from Gnutella, it doesn't mean you can do so legally. Corel Office is a commercial product, which can only be legally obtained through Corel's approved retailers and distributors.

As moderators we are not here to tell you what you can or cannot do with Gnutella, as such is completely your own responsibility. But that also means that it is solely your own responsibillity, meaning we cannot allow ourselves or the other GnutellaForums.com members to become involved in activities which are obviously not legal. That guarantees that GnutellaForums.com can continue to serve the Gnutella community unhindered.

Now, disregarding the aspect of the application you spoke of in particular, before you double click on a .EXE file ensure you scan it for virii first. Not only will virus scanners detect any possible trojans or viruses, it will usually report whether the file you have downloaded is indeed a valid .EXE file. For example, it could have been a "bogus" file (just a few megabytes of pure "junk"). Since you have already double-clicked the .EXE file, I would highly recommend that you check your system for virri ASAP. Even though nothing appeared to have happened, something may have happened without you noticing it, which is exactly what trojans and viruses are supposed to do.

As for the WinACE files, they are compressed files similar to ZIP files. You first have to uncompress those files using, you guessed it, WinACE that can be found at major download sites or at http://www.winace.com.

Once again, please refrain from posting messages that involve illegal activity. If you are unsure, feel free to contact the forum's moderators -- on the main page (click on the GnutellaForums.com logo), near the bottom-right, there's a link to "Forum Leaders" or click here ).

Woops!

So sorry - I had no idea! Now I'm not quite sure how to proceed with Gnutella, or if I will be able to do so. (I did scan for viruses both the zipped file before unzipping and then the .exe file after unzipping before I double clicked on it.) Thank you for your clarification.
