Default Lock ups!

I don't get it. This computer is extremely stable and never crashes on me. I can run multiple applications that are extremely CPU intensive, download hundreds of files through IRC, FTP and even gozilla. I can have all these things running at the same time, and never have a problem.

However, after a fresh install, I cannot run any of the gnutella clients without my computer locking up on me. I can run it for about half an hour or so, and then it seems to lock up on me. I can't figure out why. The computer just freezes. Is there some kind of setting that causes too many incoming connections or something? Does anyone else have this problem?

athlon 1300 (with sdram)

Soyo k7vta board
tried several NIC cards.
so on and so forth

Help?
Patrick
