I would personally recommend LimeWire. It has no spyware, is free, and has an intuitive interface. The features are simple enough for newbies to use, yet advanced users won't yearn for options. Other clients may be infected with spyware, have buggy interfaces, or simply frustrate you to death. Give LimeWire a try. But don't form an opinion about it until you've tried out some of the others.
