GnuFU: Gnutella For Users; a small documentation of the protocol changes Hi, I created a small document, which describes Gnutella in the well known friend of a friend model, and documents the changes of the network over the past few years in the same easy-to-read-style. It should be technically correct, while not diving to deep into technical issues. The document-format is a wiki, so you can correct errors and add new information (but please stick to the non-technical style). You can find it here: http://gnufu.net Best Wishes! Arne Bab. |
Thanks arne--I especially liked the magnet description and appreciated the links. That must have taken a lot of work! |
Superbe! Great work, idéal for gnutella users willing to understand how the actual Gnet works. merci |
Thanks for the nice feedback! It took about one or two weeks. Every day I took the tram to work I wrote about 30min on a tiny sheet of scribble-paper. Then I typed it directly into my wiki (at least, the parts, which I could still read :-) ). http://rfc-gnutella.sf.net helped me alot with that, because I could mark the changes there, before describing them. If someone wants to translate the page, she, he or even it is free to do so. I'd be especially glad, if someone, who is more fluent in Esperanto, than I am, would make an Esperanta translation, but a french, italian or spanish translation would also be fantastic. I would also freely give the German-translation to anyone (But it's a wiki, there is nothing to give: It's free for all to write what they want, as long as they escape my editing :-) ) |
Now with domain gnufu.net I registered a domain name for GnuFU. You'll now find it at: http://gnufu.net I already changed the first post to reflect this. |
Geez Gnutella as sure change since i last use it version 0.56 :D |

GnuFU with QRP and Swarming I finished the descriptions of intra-ultrapeer QRP and Swarming in GnuFU ( http://gnufu.net ). I hope, that it now contains most of the significant changes in Gnutella over the past few years. Please tell me, if you find any errors in there, or if you feel, that something is missing. If GnuFU lives up to your standard as a description of the Gnutella Network, please consider linking to it, or using it on your page to describe Gnutella. -- Arne Bab. http://gnufu.net - Gnutella For Users |
GnuFU in german/GnuFU auf Deutsch I now translated GnuFU into German. You can choose your language on the Main Page. Ich habe GnuFU: Gnutella Für Benutzer auf Deutsch übersetzt. Also I added a clarification, that Gnutella isn't GNU-Software. Außerdem habe ich eine Passage hinzugefügt, die darüber informiert, dass Gnutella keine GNU-Software ist. |
PDFs both in German and English -----this message was already posted in the_GDF----- Hi, I just finished proofreading the printable GnuFU PDFs in english and german. With those Gnutella For Users has now reached its first final version, which can freely be used by anyone. The PDFs are registered under a creative commons license: attribution-sharealike, which means, you can freely do anything with the PDFs and the source files (zipped Ragtime-documents) as long as you attribute my works to me and share your work under a similar license. You can get a copy of the license here: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/de/ . As I don't have access to my Webserver at the moment, I can only serve those files over Gnutella. Additionally they are avaible in the GDF-file repository (which sadly is only accessible by Yahoo-members): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/the_gd...laneous/GnuFU/ For those who don't yet know GnuFU: GnuFU: Gnutella For Users, a user-friendly guide and documentation of the protocol changes GnuFU is the definite Guide to Gnutella for all those interested in the concepts and ideas behind the code, and also for those who don't want to read thousands of lines of code to understand the program they use. It is written in a user-friendly style, which should allow everyone to understand it without needing years of coding experience. It should be technically correct, while not diving to deep into technical issues. I licensed it under the GFDL, the Gnu Free Documentations License, and you are free to use it on your site to describe Gnutella, as long as you name me as first author and give a backlink to it. The document-format is a wiki, so you can correct errors and add new information (but please stick to the non-technical style). At the moment it is available in English and German. You can get GnuFU via Bitzi, the GDF-file repository or from http://gnufu.net. I hope this proves useful to get people interested in Gnutella, who stopped tracking it 3 years ago (and there are quite some of them). If you'd send this document to newspapers, news-sites or portal-pages you know I'd be most happy, because I want it to spread as far as possible. You can also make me happy by downloading it and putting it into your shared folder, because then it becomes more avaible on Gnutella. |
The files are avaible through: http://draketo.de/inhalt/krude-ideen/gnufu-en.pdf - english version and http://draketo.de/inhalt/krude-ideen/gnufu-de.pdf - german version. |
