The gnutella network is never "static"
People connect and disconnect all the time.
If you are searching for hard to get files, you could try to connect and disconnect yourself, but for the health of the network, do not make a habbit of it.
The best strategy is to be patient, keep your client running for half an hour or so and if you still can't get what you are looking for, reconnect

No, this probably happens because the servents you are connected to filter out this re-search if it happens to soon. For example gtk-gnutella does this when running as an ultrapeer. If a leaf node re-sends the same search request too early (< 20 minutes or something), the search query is dropped by the ultrapeer and therefore never reaches the rest of the network.

You could try searching for the same artist by modifying the search keywords a bit (swap the words or for example search for the artist + part of a song name).

@RaaF: it is very improbable that all servents that sent a hit before have vanished since the previous search. This may happen when you have very few search results, but with popular files this is nearly impossible.
