Try another player. I get very different quality on different players. Some systems can use one player well and others not.

I use QCD, Winamp, Windows Media Player & MusicMatch Juke Box, all these I find work well and produce good quality.

Some of the in-built players in p2p clients are not up to scratch

If it's still bad..then, it's the file that's bad..better delete it and start again.
