Hosts I enter drop after 5 sec Here is my dilemma. I have downloaded bearshare, limewire, and gnotella to make sure it was not the client. When i try to enter the suggested hosts in this forum like gnutella.hostscache.com:6346 , They stay in my host list for about 5 or 10 seconds, then disapear to be replaced by a random ip entered by the program. I have a 56k modem and connect using aol (yuck) at the moment, but i don't really see why this happenes. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

You see, servers like gnutella.hostscache.com (and others) have only the purpose to support you with initial IP addresses of actual gnutella hosts you could perhaps connect to. So the appearing ip adress is not random; it should be the address of a 'real' gnutella node. Be patient while starting, give your servent time to establish some connections: 2-4 min will do. And remember that not every node will let you connect - some are firewalled, some are 'full'. [I have a 56k modem and connect using aol (yuck) at the moment, ...] Should be no problem ;). If you are experiencing more troubles, ask again. Greetings... |
To use the network you need to be connected to other hosts in the network. gnutella.hostscache.com:6346 is not a host, it is a host cache and will give your program the IP addresses of hosts that are currently connected to the network. |
Yes, as I said ;) |
I know that problem. Could it be caused by a firewall? I've got the same problems... and still searching for the reason. I even told my firewall to forward the ports, but it didn't help. It also seems to be independent from the client you use. I've tried Windows-Clients and under Linux gnut and gnewtellium. A few seconds after I entered a hostname it disappears without any lists downloaded. While it tries to connect the Stats say: 1)0.0.0.0:6346 Packs: 0:0 0:0 Bytes: 0:0 TID:2051 Type: OUT State: CONN Rate: 0:0 /sec Can anyone help? I want to use the network!!! cya, coyote |
GNet Wizard To coyote: Try the GNet Wizard it can test to see if a firewall or something like that will keep you from connecting to the network. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GNetWiz |
