Specific rating of clients: (1) trojan, (2) privacy, (3) selection, (4) speed I'm interested in trying a file-sharing application. I'm running Win2k and abhor spyware/adware/etc., and would rate the desireability of a client this way: 1. NO spyware/adware/maileare/etc 2. Most privacy so I can't be hauled into court 3. Best selection 4. Fastest downloads I realize item 4 is mostly based on the number of users on broadband, and item 3 is mostly based on the software's popularity and ratio policies. But first and foremost, which clients have NO trojan issues? Can someone create a poll (or series of polls) that would break these four options down, or has one already been done? Thanks. |

I guess I meant to say no buried spyware etc in the client itself. And by selection I was referring specifically to music. Thanks Michael |
Shareaza, Gnucleus and Phex are free of any "unwanted" crap. All these clients are able to connect to the Gnutella network. Shareaza is also able to connect to its own network and the donke network, you can also download torrent files. The "free" versions of Limewire and Bearshare contain additional crap... so you have to pay for them but I really see no reason for this because the others are free. Morgwen |
How much are the pay versions? And what's up with Shareaza? I've been reading the debate about that and some people say it's good, some say it's bad... |
for me shareaza is really slow because i am firewalled. but it does have pretty much the best GUI out there in my opinion. right now i am using morpheus, the neonet is working well in the beta. but the app can still be improved. since it seems you are new i'd recomend LimeWire or Ares. |
Hey xcuse my intrusion. Especially since I know nothing about this topic, hehehe, but from what I've read, Shareaza actually damages the network thru its aggressive nature (such as eg: destroys the concept of p2p. As just *one* eg!) Not to mention it slowing the network down. If everybody was using shareaza imagine the tortoise speeds we'd be getting, as well as many T1's who'd be kicking up a fuss to any/everybody! But heh I'm outta here before somebody stands on my toes!!! The invisible man. Just a will o' the wisp. Silent footprints. woof Oh whilst u mention spywares et voilą, didn't LW be-rid of those suspicious xtras when version 4 came around. (no need for me to post an xtra post here!) |

Shareaza does indeed harm Gnutella by its multinetwork behavior and old technologies. |
Reasonable anonymity is possible It is possible to make fileharing safer for sharers. Just look into this thread (and then get it into the Programmers heads, to begin implementing it, or get any programmer doing it): http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27597 |
