Dropped Connection

I'm pretty new to the gnutella thing, and have recently got a cable modem. I'm not sure if anyone can help, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Normally, my connection is fine. But when I try to use a software package based on gnutella (bearshare, limewire, and gnotella so far) the connection drops after a period of time, usually around 10-20 minutes. The connection comes back after about a minute, and I can resume where I left off usually, but it's definitely a pain in the rear.

I've had the guys at RoadRunner come out, and they've tested the line and even replaced the modem, but so far the problem's still there.

Has anyone had this problem, or can think of what might be causing this? I've not had this problem with surfing the web, or even with other file sharing programs (I've tried Morpheus; I'd prefer not to go back... ;) )

Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That sounds like something on your ISPs side. There is a chance they may be monitoring your activity and looking for gnutella connections and disconnecting you for this. Although that is strange I have seen other gnutella users with an road runner IP address, although I have not checked any time recently. You might want to try changing the port settings from 6346 to something else like maybe 1234, Im not sure what else can be done right now, you may have to specify yourself as behind a fire wall.

Still got the problem....

Well, I tried changing the port to 1234, and as I was already behind a firewall, I had that option checked. If RoadRunner is behind this, their tech support people don't know about it, because I told them that it was a file sharing protocal that was causing the problem. *sigh* Anyone else have any insight into what I can do?
