Limewire Documents

Hi, I've just installed Limewire on my newly acquired although now slightly older mac which is using os 8.6.

The program looks great and there seems to be loads you can do with it, but from the first few downloads I've tried of mp3 and mpeg files all I get are these 'limewire documents' which frankly appear to do naff all.

I'm sure this is purely a result of me being a bit thick about some feature of Limewire but if anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it.:)

it's a Finder problem--you can try using the PC Exchage Control Panel to "map" the file to the proper app, or just dragging it onto the application you think should open it.

Also, search the Mac Support Forum for "limewire documents" to find lots more about the problems of getting internet files onto OS 8-9

Here's a sample http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=23092

cheers

btw--that's the trouble with Macs--those old machines just keep on working so looooooong! :p

The suggstions made in the link 'don't necessarily' solve the issue.
For mp3's there's 'some' players that'll change the icon to that of their own (eg: Audion & the audion os9 version is compatible with os8.6.)
The technical solution if the above suggestions don't work is to use a file utility. I use Mac Army Knife & use the File Attribute Editor to add the appropriate Creator & file Type codes (compare to ones you have.) You'd find that these are either blank or have LW as the creator. Changing them to what they should be & their appropriate icon will return & if you double-click them, the approp app will open them.
