Freeloaders are starting to wear on me. I keep my computer connected to Gnutella nearly non-stop, sharing about 30 games and a bunch of other files.

But when I do a search for games I see about 1 zipped game per 2 to 3 hosts, at best! I feel like I'm the only one sharing one game in particular (it kinda sucks uploading a game 50+ times and seeing only one other person sharing it!)

Please, people, start sharing. I don't know how much longer I can hold out.

Know the feeling,

My wife works in the err adult entertainment industry (Really she does <I know I am a lucky git>)

we have various files which are only available from our selves, and we occaisionally send out to customers at request. the customer files are locked with media protection (my type not telling you <G>) however we share quite a few other media files of our own with no protection, some individual files have had over 60 uploads, and generated some very encouraging responses and further sales of custom stuff (see file distribution systems DO pay) however, I have only seen 2 hosts sharing them... (unless they have renamed them A MAJOR pet peeve)

I understand the problem with ISPs disconnecting users, (I work for an ISP damn I married into the porn industry, I media protect my files and I run a gnutella servent and I work for a Large ISP... I am in NOBODIES good books today <G>) but I cannot understand this freeloader policy, even a few the more Freedom of distribution peops at the office state that they don't allow uploads, as it cuts into thier bandwidth, why... they are only doing the same **** as I am... oh well

I do not think freeloading is a problem at all.
Gnutella is Socialism, live with it - those who have, share with those who do not have.

Exactly my point...

I am a socialist, and can't really understand what other people have against it (the stuff to order that I protect is more for the customers protection fnurk fnurk <G>)

I am sure the last thing they need is their wife or kiddies finding it

so, teach those freeloaders a lesson by not sharing your files.

I honestly would share my Mp3s, but I have only one phone line and 28K dial up connection anyone sharing w/ me would be POed at the wait.

Maybe some user just needs some KB of one of the files that you have, and he/she won't mind to wait a little to get the rest of the file... I share every file I download (if it's working), but I don't use Gnutella with my modem, just at work (DSL).

Smile Freeloaders are not evil!

It is egoistic behaviour but very human... and speaking technical: caused indirect by static gnutella network topology. Gnutella technology should be further developed, to solve the freleoader dilema and make modem users a valuable member.

Read some of my ideas in this thread (at bottom of first page)
