System Wide Bandwidth Monitor Alert!!!

I am issuing an all points bulitin. Do I repeat Do not down load any Bandwidth Monitors. Size: 765.5 kilibites. Could also include any with lesser size. When opened they inundate your computer with multiple viruses and spyware. Caught 14 viuses in system files alone and would have been many more but my security blocked some of them If you have this file on your computer deete it imediatly. It spread from one host to another i believe. Did another search, same key words and found many more of the same axact file under many names. All start with Bandwidth Monitor.

There is a patern of behavior to these things also. If you have been using P2P long enough you find the same length files are always and I repeat always nasties. For example: There is a file that appears with many differant name's that is 106. something kilobits long and another that is 885.something kbs. these appear most often with multimedia files such as movies.
I have even found that there appear to be networks that specialize in custom files. I mean that sometimes when i have tried to find a file and have difficulty doing so often times one of these nasties will appear with the exact file name i asked for.
The rule of thumb I found is to always and I reapeat always look at the size of the file and se if it is kbs or mega. That will give you a clue as to if you are downloading your desired file or a pig in the polk.....

Thanks Bit. I have swarn off P2P for a while. want to see what the courts are going to do. Got rid of old drives and have a new virgin one. i've heard that you would have to phyisically destroy the disks in order for any info to be kept from prying eyes.
Have fun all and watch your back!!!
Bye!

Credence

You moight want to look into Credence.

It is a distributed Scam-watcher/File-Rating mechanism which is programmed into a modified LimeWire:

http://www.cs.cornell.edu/People/egs/credence/

You can rate up or rate down files, and your program checks, which other people rated the files like you did, and trusts them based on that information, so you get the scam-votings updated automatically.

It is in heavy developement, at the moment.
