Program Download WARNING

Beware if you download any programs from the network.
There are people who hate filesharing programs.

One person I've seen keeps loads of faulse program packages rapped in Zip and RAR files on his PC then goes online for hours fishing. The stuff he has is 550+ k to 12,000+k. Once you open it it places around a hundred files into your "Owner/Complete - folder filled with false program names, that all contain the same 500+k program for others to download.
It makes your Limewire or Bearshare, or other to continually keep opening when you close it.
It places the "complete" file mentioned earlier in your shareing library for others to download. There are often many quick downloads available because so many people have it, and do not know it.

Check to see if you already have it. Go to (on Win XP):

C:Owner/documents and settings/Complete

Most likely something simular on other systems.

If you see the folder filled with programs; you got it.

Or if your filesharing program keeps opening up; you got it.

A way to step around the mines is to open the zip or rar because you can then see what is in them without opening the exe.

If there is only one file in there without the proper titles or several files that are claimed to be there, POW!

Yes you can avoid the woods if you know there are bears there.
But then you will also miss the beauty of the forest.
Carry a bit of forest know-how.

If the files are signed, any source should be as good as any other. If the files are not signed, every source is questionable including typo.example.org.

Just as easily as cracks and keys are made, sigs can be made.
Yeah well, you need some minor knowledge about signatures and how to use/verify them. I guess that's a tall order.

Condoms aren't secure either. They may be defect or tear. The pope has proven that they don't work anyway - the molecular structure of the material isn't dense enough for HIV. Furthermore, if you use condoms you go straight to hell after death and get grilled for eternity.

Filtering

Dear Guys

The best way to avoid viral infections from exe, zip and rar files is to filter them from your search results.

Unless you are a glutton for punishment or have an unwavering faith in your own good luck then all such files should be avoided unless it comes from a trusted source, e.g. updates and bug fixes from a software vendor’s website.

In addition, as various posts throughout this forum have proved, P2P networks are not trusted sources.
