legality

Could someone tell me, the ignorant parent of a 14 year old, if what he is doing legal. He is downloading music from Limewire and not paying for it. We live in the UK.

Hi, If the music if protected by copyright it is illegal to download it. I suspect your son is not after music that is free of copyright restrictions. We give rather less straight answers to this question sometimes, but as it is your ip address and computer you should know the facts. In the UK I believe prossecutions have been made, mainly on people who are sharing or uploading a LOT of music. I don't think the person who downloads a small amount of music is likely to be prosecuted:)

I hope this helps

Hi,

Just curious what you consider a small amount? Are we talking 500-1000,or over 5000? Because I have seen and browsed into people's computers and some of them have like 5,000 files or more. They don't seemed worried about the legality of it.
