Nobody want to vote? Hi, 100 views... 4 votes... Morgwen  |
I use Gnucleus for the following reasons. 1 Resumes partial downloads reliably 2 Flexibility - It lets you tinker with more settings 3 Open Source - nuff said 4 System friendly - People dont seem to complain about it screwing up Windows Reasons others may not want to use Gnucleus: 1 The latest version stinks - push is so broken, it just gives up trying. (V 1.3.5 was good, just dont let it evolve) 2 It crashes for some people, mostly Win2k it seems. I should add that I use Win2k and don't have any problems. 3 It's Not for dummies - no stinkin help files here |
Hi! Forgot to say that only members can vote... :( Morgwen |
Was "Members Only" your choice Morgwen? If so, why? |

May be you want to read this... http://www.bear-share.de/ubb/ultimat...&f=19&t=000054 Thread is only in german! Morgwen |
Which file sharing program do you use the most? Hi Morgwen, view this poll on Zeropaid. It's not about (our loved) Gnutella only, but gives (as usual) a more general snapshot about file sharing: http://www.zeropaid.com/poll/test.ph...lts&poll_id=15 |
Thanks Moak! I voted on this poll, too... Morpheus on the first place... :( I canīt believe it... But Moak wait a few weeks, than we can talk again about polls and bearshare... ;) Morgwen |
|
why read the "spyware" poll first? i know bearshare and swapnut have taken a beating on this issue, and i don't want to start another "anti-spyware" thread here. unless that is the defining issue in this poll? I have no problems with bearshare. it is the only client i have gotten to run smoothly on my system (sans spyware) for hours and even days at a time. I am still tweakin gnotella and i can't get an answer for my problems with swapnut. (I'm almost afraid to post it here for the negative feedback down there - but i will, because initially i like it - OK, that split screen on the search/download annoys me, but maybe it would not if I had a 21" monitor :) ) |
Hi creosote! I am also a bearshare (not only!) user! But I cannot accept any kind of spyware! This is my opinion, you donīt have to agree! And I donīt want to start a new thread about it! It is only a information for all users, and they should know they are many other clients that are without this crap! Note: Bearshare is working excellent without this crap, delete it with ad-aware: http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0...0-7302674.html Morgwen |
WinMX? Is WinMX considered a gnutella client? How is it compared to the others/Morpheus? Thanks, Mike |
WinMX is no Gnutella client... If you compare it with Morpheus I would say Morpheus is better, because Morpheus has multiple download WinMX not! Morgwen |
Hi, I have been using Audio Galaxy and have very few complaints with it. But I havent tried any others....are they better? If you think so can you tell me why? I'd like to know what other good options are out there. Thanks! |
I donīt use audio galaxy, because it contains spytools... Morpheus, eDonkey and Xolox are very good! Test them and you will know why... The future of Xolox is actually unclear! And I think you can only download music with audio galaxy... Morgwen |
Yeah, ag is only for music. Didnt realize that they used spy tools though. I thought that Morph was going down in the next 2 weeks? Got that from Fark so not really my most trusted new source :), my fav though. Thanks for the tips! |
For the command-line fans, there is a new client called mutella. I've been using it for a couple of days now and it is certainly promising. My favourite features are excellent resuming capabilities, automatically researching and it parses all QueryHits passing through for the keywords it searches for. It is certainly much better than the buggy linux kazaa client or gnut, although it does not support multihost downloads (which I do not care about anyway, since I'm online 24/7 and I don't mind waiting a day or two for a download to complete). |
Poll I think this poll should be renewed periodically, as user opinions may change, especially due to recent episodes (Xolox has been closed, the spyware debate, etc...) Ivan "In the dark we make a brighter light" |
okay, but I still use Xolox as my favourite Gnutella client. :) I guess in a few weeks, Morgwne could start a new poll..... |
Yes, after the release of the Limewire supernode and the new version of bearshare... I think in january! Morgwen |
ups... forgot to log in! Morgwen |

Yep gnucleus for me all the way , luv the control. call me a control freak, but I loooovvve being able to limit upload bandwidth. :D |
So let me get this straight, I can download bearshare and use the ad-aware program to eliminate the spyware? Does morpheus use spyware? What is the best program to use that doesn't involve spyware? |
Infected clients Spyware do contain the following Gnutella programs: - Bearshare - Limewire - Swapnut Also other P2P Programms (not Gnutella network): - Kazaa - Grokster - AudioGalaxy Just try anything else... to be sure run AdAware after install, happy sharing. :) |

I now I make typos all over the place but that's a weird expression ? "A cheeseburger I pay for ." Or this one : "Police-officer I kicked in his balls !" :D LOL  |
Sorry for my bad english?!? Actually I wanted to say 'Spyware does own the following Gnutella programs'. Better? :) |
lol no offense intended ... |
*grin* This is time for more coffee.... |
How about just plain and simple : "The following Gnutella programs contain Spyware ." You got the entire thing backwards ! ;) |
yeah listen to that man! :) |
 huh ? |
Just a thought : Does your avatar really resemble yourself ? Can I Imagine you behind your PC with a bag of weed next to you ? :p |
I mean, VTOLfreak speaks english, listen to him! :) Btw isn't it a interesting philosophy question: Does Gnutella contain some Spyware - or does Spyware contain some Gnutella features? At least the latest Spyware fiasco shows that developers have no controll about it, so who owns who? *g* PS: Smoking tabaco is unhealthy. |
Interesting question indeed ? Who owns who ? You would start to think spyware owns P2P if you look at the list of "naughty" servents . |
Then you happen to find out that your dancer is a 10-year old computergeek ... Now I don't have that problem : I must be the only computergeek in my country with a girlfrend that rather speaks HTML to me then Dutch . :p I like it ! And she looks fine too ! BTW I'm a 15-year old comutergeek wich is so obsessed with PC's that his shool allows him to maintain their network ... Probably also because I don't cost as much as a profesional IT guy to keep things running . |

Limewire installs Trojan!!! Those *******s of Limewire install a Trojan in your computer!!! Information below taken from Symantec: Ver W32.DlDer.Trojan Discovered on: December 27, 2001 Last Updated on: January 2, 2002 at 12:46:44 PM PST Printer-friendly version Tell a Friend W32.DlDer.Trojan is a Trojan which has two components that work together: Dlder.exe (40,960 bytes) and Explorer.exe (31,232 bytes), which is downloaded by Dlder.exe. NOTE: Definitions dated before December 29, 2001, detect this as Backdoor.Trojan. Also Known As: Trojan.Win32.DlDer Type: Trojan Horse Virus Definitions: December 29, 2001 Threat Assessment: Wild: Low Damage: Low Distribution: Low Technical description: This Trojan is known to be installed (as part of the normal installation) by two "freeware" file-sharing programs: Grokster, which is a file sharing system. Limeware, which is the LimeWire Gnutella Client. During the installation process of these programs, you are asked if you want to install the (spyware) program "Clicktilluwin." Regardless of whether you click Yes or No, the Trojan code is installed. This Trojan has two components: Explorer.exe, which is the main Trojan. Dlder.exe, which is the downloader for Explorer.exe. The Trojan creates the hidden folder \Explorer in the \Windows folder, and then downloads Explorer.exe to that folder. The Trojan also copies Dlder.exe to the \Windows folder. NOTE: Do not confuse the Trojan, which is copied as \Windows\Explorer\Explorer.exe, with the real Windows Explorer file, which is also named Explorer.exe. The genuine file is, by default, in stored in the \Windows folder, not the \Windows\Explorer\ folder. The Trojan creates the \Explorer folder under the Windows folder, and places the Trojan there. The Trojan also adds one of the following values: dlder C:\windows\explorer\Explorer.exe dlder C:\windows\dlder.exe to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run so that it runs each time that you start Windows. The Trojan appears to be sending some information (such User-ID and IP address) to the following URL: http:/ /www.2001-007.com Removal instructions: To remove this Trojan, delete files that are detected as W32.DlDer.Trojan, and remove the value that it added to the registry. To remove the Trojan: 1. Run LiveUpdate to make sure that you have the most recent virus definitions. 2. Start Norton AntiVirus (NAV), and make sure that NAV is configured to scan all files. For instructions on how to do this, read the document How to configure Norton AntiVirus to scan all files. 3. Run a full system scan. 4. Delete all files that are detected as W32.DlDer.Trojan. To edit the registry: CAUTION: We strongly recommend that you back up the system registry before you make any changes. Incorrect changes to the registry could result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Please make sure that you modify only the keys that are specified. Please see the document How to back up the Windows registry before you proceed. 1. Click Start, and click Run. The Run dialog box appears. 2. Type regedit and then click OK. The Registry Editor opens. 3. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run 4. In the right pane, delete any of the following values that exist: dlder C:\windows\explorer\Explorer.exe dlder C:\windows\dlder.exe 5. Navigate to and delete the following subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Games\Clicktilluwin 6. Click Registry, and then click Exit. |
