Getting clients to work with only HTTP Port 8080 Proxy or bypassing proxy

Ok, I am at college. We have this pretty nice wireless network (all Cisco). For internet access we have to use a Novell BoarderManager Proxy, which connects to 10.10.1.53:8080. I can use eDonkey2000 and KaZaA, but that's pretty much it. I don't know how they get away without proxies but I'd like to use some Gnutella clients and none seem to work.

I've noticed a Force IP option in some programs. How does that work?? The LAN here uses DHCP which assigns internal IPs. How do I know what IP to force?

I've heard talk about port forwarding. How do I do this? What programs do I need? I'm using Windows XP BTW.

Are there any programs I can use to see what ports programs use?

Are there any other ways to bypass a proxy or use an HTTP one??

Thanx...
