Cable modem connection problems

I have a major problem,
whenever I try to run a Gnutella client (Gnucleus, Xolox, Bearshare, Limewire have all been tried) my cable modem works for about 2 hours and then dies. The only solution I have found so far is to unplug the modem and plug it back in. Any suggestions as to the problem?

I have tried disconnecting the hub from my network but the problem remains even when the cable modem is only connected to one computer. So I know that the problem is not with the hub, and this problem occurs on both my Windows XP and Windows 98 machines (even when the other is turned off)
