p2p is meant to be free, and people are supposed to be able to host what they want, so people monitoring what people upload would kind of defeat the purpose.

but i agree there is too much cp out there, and i dont see why we can't report the names of the files and users and ips of the stuff to the ppl who have the gnutella servers so they can ban these people's ips and delete the files off the network. there's no reason to have that stuff out there

Sorry but the Gnutella network does not have any servers. It has users and each user is a server. The files you or I share are not held on a server they are on your computer. That is why the Gnutella network is virtually impossible to shut down because there are no servers to seize and shut down. Just users.

hmm..... well, if that's the case, the only thing to do is to take legal action against the people hosting this stuff... which is harder to do.

I always read, "sue them! sue them!". Not once have I read "Who are these children? We must help them!". Not once. Not once. At least be honest and write "I don't give a **** whether this exists, I just don't wanna know about it, so filter that crap out!". Be concerned or not. Nobody can care about each problem in the world. Don't pretend you do because that's just disgusting. These files are not the problem, those are symptoms.

things are being done about such stuff...it is just not generally talked about...

for one...said pictures are having the offensive part (naked children) removed and the leftover (the room, outside view, etc) is left...that is being spread around in hopes that somebody will recognize the locations (and there has been success)

maybe some officials have actually listened to my 'idea' of using modern day facial recognition software...seems rather simple to me, load in every single image of children (with names of course) available into a data base, and then cross reference it with the pictures...there should be photos of most all school age children from their schools, hence quite a nice database is available..

and of course as mentioned above, many files are being shared by law enforcement in hopes of catching predators...

filtering said results out is not legally possible, and if ppl are really so inflammed by their presence then perhaps they should start logging IP addys and reporting them...
