programs

when downloading programs how is one supposed to know what OS it is for. For example I have a mac and i want to download photoshop 6. I use Limewire and there aren't any notes stating what OS it is for. Any help would be cool. Also, anyone know what sites are available to get the serial numbers for programs once they have been downloaded?
