do I need gnutella or just bearshare, or both?

Hi,
This is probably a stupid question, but here goes:
Do I need the program called Gnutella in order to use Bearshare?
I installed Gnutella off of a maximum computing cd a while back and never could figure it out . I did notice that Gnutella had a place to put clients, so I went ahead and downloaded Bearshare.
I'll install this later on this weekend, but I was noticing that Bearshare seems to be a complete P2P filesharing system all by itself. If it is, then what is Gnutella for?

james

BearShare (or whatever other client you decide to use) is pretty much all you need.

"Gnutella" is just the name of the network that these things use. There is nothing to install for this.

Maybe he got confused with "Gnotella". Both Bearshare and Gnotella are Gnutella clients, which don't need each other at all.

Sorry people,
I ain't that confused about the program. It is : "Gnutella v0.56"
and it came off of the march,2001 cd bundled with the
"Maximum PC" magazine! As soon as I get bearshare going, I'll
stick the program in my share file and spread the gift of confusion.
still cunfused,
james

Gnutella 0.56 is a relatively old program. You don't need it in order to use Bearshare. Sorry about the confused thing, but many people are.

So it's an old program ( obsolete), cool. Thanks for the info, for a
while there I thought I was gonna have to try and run one program inside of the other , which I don't think is very realistic, considerin' as how I've about wore out the CNTRL/ALT/DELETE keys just trying to keep one going.
thanks,
james
