Gnutella protocol kills MS Winsock Proxy Does anyone have any idea why using any Gnutella client will hose the MS Winsock Proxy? I have found this problem going all the way back to the v0.56 Gnutella client. Some clients take longer to crash the Proxy. For instance, the Gnotella client, and some earlier versions of BearShare would allow me to use Gnutella for several hours before having to kill all the Proxy services and start over. Sometimes Winsock proxy will crash with some kind of illegal operation, sometimes it will appear to be working, but doesn't respond normally. Now and then I may have to actually reboot the server. I am running WinNT4 Server with SP6a and all hotfixes for OS, IIS and Proxy. (AFAIK) WinMX doesn't seem to be as much of a problem. I have to have it running for several days before there is a need to reboot. |
Have a look at the following URLs: http://www.microsoft.com/isaserver/e.../downloads.asp http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q190997 Hope this helps. Remember that Gnutella continuously receives and sends traffic, as opposed to many other protocols such as HTTP, SMTP, etc. Some clients may also have an issue where it drops connections often (and thus has to reestablish connections equally often). While NT Server and all other 'Server' versions are less prone to these issues, issues still exists (and more likely for a proxy server). -- Mike |
