Writing my own Gnutella servant

I'm writing my own Gnutella servant. Where can I find guidelines on protocols and message formats?

Thanks! I found it very informative!

I've built a servant!

I'm performing all the "Inbound stuff": I'm connecting, pinging, receiving pongs, receiving inbound connections, receiving querys.

I have not embarked on processing the information I receive...just currently looking and examining it. My observation: There's alot of Pinging going on!

One question: It doesn't look like all the Pings are really Pings (what I call a Ping is a packet with a 0x00 in the Payload Descriptor, or byte 16). It looks like many Pings contain Query information (search words, etc). Am I interpreting this stuff wrong, or am I just crazy?
