SYN attack

Hi,

I used a GNUCdna based gnutella client to connect to gnutella network
Now even when this client is closed, my computer is receiving a lot of TCP SYN from different computers (few in a second).

1. What is possible explanation?
2. How it can be prevented?
3. If I leave client disconnected when the SYNs will stop arriving?
4. Is this behavor written somewhere in standard?

Thanks
Moshiko.

Sorry, I presumed your OS is XP rather than Vista, Windows 7 or any other type.
