System Crash (SuSE 8.0) Please help!!

Hi,

when I use LimeWire 2.5.5, my system hangs several times for about five minutes where I can not do anything, but my computer awakes after these five minutes and catches up all inputs during the "hang time".
After a few of these hangs my system crashes totally so I can only make a hard reset.

Could anybody help me please.

kind regards

Well, I'm not sure it's entirely due to LW 2.5.5
I have SuSE 8.0 too and I'm experiencing the same 5 minutes hang when I connect to the internet by using the kinternet app in the kicker.
I noticied this began to happen a week ago as soon I did an on-line update.
the only difference is that after those 5 mnutes the system does not crash, everything continue to work nominally.
We should involve SuSE guy on this problem too.

I use SuSE 8.0 as well... and it works fine.
But I don't use Kinternet, I'm using a Router.
Have you tried the latest Java Release and done an Online Update of your OS recently?

Can't help you with your problem directly, but I hate when people use the reset button. So, I just had to check.

1. Did you try opening a new virtual console with <Ctrl><Alt>+F2 (or F3 through F6), and attempt to kill LimeWire manually?

2. Did you try <Ctrl><Alt>+<Backspace> to try to shut down your X-server?

3. Did you attempt a somewhat graceful shutdown with the SysReq sequence? (SysRq might be labled Print Screen on your keyboard).. You can get details on what everything does elsewhere, but write down RSEIUB somewhere, then when you lock up hold down <Alt>+<SysRq> and press those keys <Alt><SysRq>+R, <Alt><SysReq>+S, <Alt><SysRq>+E, etc. in the order show. These are low-level calls that will try to close all your files, sync disks, and so forth.
