Default LimeWire & J2RE Error in SuSE 8.0 - Please Help!

I'm fairly new to Linux (hence this question), but when I try and run LimeWire on SuSE 8.0, I get the follwing error:

"No Java virtual machine could be found from your PATH environment variable. You must install a VM prior to running this program."

I already installed the J2RE (j2re-1_4_0_01-linux-i586-rpm.bin), and from reading the other threads I know I need to modify the path to the proper Java VM. But I cannot seem to find where exactly the file/script/etc... is that I need to modify. (java -version returns "java version 1.1.8, fyi)

Thanks for any assistance

Thansk for the quick reply! However, I already searched thru the forums & could not get the other solutions to work properly. I installed j2re-1_4_0_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin, and followed the directions to set the PATH. However, when I ran the installer for LimeWire, several errors popped up, all pertaining to Java. I then checked the java version, & it was still listed as 1.1.8.......so apparently the changes did not take effect. (entering 'which java' gives /usr/lib/java/bin/java......how do I change that to the correct path - j2re?)

I ran into this probelm on another comp, & I recall having to modify the path within a file...but I don't remember what file it was. In the other thread, they said /etc/profile...however, that contains several path declarations, & i'm not sure where/or what I should modify.

Any ideas?

- Thanks for the assistance

Hi there,

The j2re gets installed somewhere like:

/usr/jave/j2re-1.4.02/bin

Find out where first.

Then type:

export PATH=/usr/<wherever java is>/bin:$PATH

Then run the installer.
