im new to linux and dont exactly know how to compile the source so i just got it off limewire.com. does the linux version contain spyware?

First of all, using the definition of spy-ware as software that collect internet browsing habits and reports it back to some server, no version of LimeWire contains spyware.

However the software that LimeWire bundles with the Windows version, which is an affiliate shopping program is not written or controlled by the LimeWire people. My guess is that the company that creates that software simply have not ported it to Linux, probably because the software is an IE plugin.
