why i can't browse the internet and use limewire at the same time?

I'm using redhat 8 and a modem connection, is there a reason why when i use mozilla and limewire at the same time, neither of the two programs seem to work, and the leds of the modem, stop blinking?

Yes, of course there is a reason but it has probably nothing to do with mozilla nor with LimeWire because both programs are completely ignorant of your modem.

ok, i agree with you, there's a reason for almost everything, so let me reformulate:
does anybody have any idea where should i begin to trace the root of this problem?

I would try some more linux-centric forum. I'm not very familiar with Redhat but I would assume that it could be anything from a kernel bug to a problem with whatever scripts you use to create your dial-up connection.

Maybe you should browse through your log files and look for hints...

I have used RedHat and gnutella/browsing over a modem, and never had problems, other than a reasonable slowdown from the increased traffic. Maybe it is the upload traffic that is hurting you. Do you get problems from heavy upload traffic on another program, such as an FTP upload?

I also found a problem sometimes with K56Flex and V.90 procols. They are supposed to negotiate correctly, but I have gotten better performance manually picking the correct match.

You can also use minicom to talk to the modem, and use AT commands to report connection errors.

Just some ideas. (and of course, be sur
to check ppp and system logs.)
