(New) LimeWire 1.6(Linux) StartUp Problem

This is kinda weird ....

When i tried to run LimeWire1.6(Linux) version, i only see a *small* non-resizable window popping up(with only the word "Welcome"visible), not the full-fledged GUI we all are accustomed to. Of course nobody can download anything with this window.

I am running LinuxMandrake8.0 with both JDK and JRE 1.3.1 installed. I tried all the 3 instructions in the README to no avail.

Anyone experiencing the same issue? I sure am interested to try out 1.6's download-resume feature. :)

Me Too!!!

I'm seeing the exact same thing. I use SuSE 7.1 with JRE1.3.1.

Same thing happens to me using mdk 8 and jre 1.3.1.

I tried dloading and running runlime from version 1.5 but it didn't work either.

I also am running JRE 1.3.1 on Linux Mandrake 8.0. It won't start up at all.

I also get the same problem with RedHat 7.1

However..............

For some reason (God only knows) after fiddeling with it for several minutes, the Welcome window suddenly resized to its proper size and I was able to proceed with the install. So it is possible, only I have no clue how the hell I did it...

just fiddle around with it and press every key on your keyboard etc...the window actually is waiting for you to press a "Next" button, but you cannot see it because the window is not sized properly, and the brilliant people at limewire decided that you should not be able to manually resize the welcome screen ..... ugh!

hey guys, ever test your program on other operating systems besides windows??

i had this problem ,
the way i fixed it was to change to the window maker wm ,
this wm was able to resize the window.

it works

i had the same problem (small window) under Linux Mandrake 8.0. I think it's a java problem. I just installed IBM Java Runtime Enviroment and now it works fine...

You can download this at www.ibm.com..... as rpm package.

don't forget to set the PATH variable to the path of the new installed IBMjre.

Here you go

I had this same problem with KDE 2.1. I used Gnome 1.2 and it worked. Once you start it once in Gnome it will work in KDE after that.

Apologies for our lack of response on this topic -- I've been on vacation for awhile and we've all been pretty swamped with work over here.

LimeWire 1.6b beta version, available at:

http://www.limewire.com/beta/1.6b/

addresses this issue by simply making to window resizable on all Unix platforms. Different versions of the JRE clearly handle resizing of dialog windows differently, and it's really beyond our testing capabilities to look at all of them given our limited resources.

Please let us know if the new version gives you any more problems by posting on this forum. Apologies for the inconvenience.
