Downloading Probs in Linux (plz help)

Heya,

Okay, I am running Linux Mandrake 8.0, here's my sys info:
[redeemer@ToX redeemer]$ uname -a ; df -h
Linux ToX 2.4.3-20mdk #1 Sun Apr 15 23:03:10 CEST 2001 i686 unknown
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda7 2.7G 816M 1.8G 31% /
/dev/hda6 1.4G 216M 1.2G 15% /home
/dev/hda1 6.4G 1.6G 4.8G 25% /mnt/windows
[redeemer@ToX redeemer]$

Well, I downloaded limewire yesterday, then downloaded the 14MB Java runtime thing from java.sun.com - after a lil' while of moving the LimeWire contents in to the java folder, and changing the bash script to execute "./java" instead of "java", I got LimeWire to load. However, I get this "error" in my terminal, but LimeWire seems to load fine anyways:
Font specified in font.properties not found [--symbol-medium-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-adobe-fontspecific]
Font specified in font.properties not found [--symbol-medium-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-adobe-fontspecific]

I guess that just means I don't have the font installed that the limewire applet likes to use, nothing major.

Anywho, my main problem is downloading. Yesterday, I managed to download 2 mp3s fine with no problem. Then it all went weird, I am either getting an error of "downloading from IP:port ..." then it says "couldn't download". Or the other error is "Waiting Xs for X busy" then it goes to "couldn't download" - and it is like this for any file/filetype I try to download. I checked the help section on limewire.com and it says this may happen if the server is "Overloaded" (extremely busy) - but I checked with my friend (he has Mdk8.0 too), and he can download from LimeWire no probs.

This is my 'configuration' in under the options panel:

Sharing Tab:
Save dir: /home/redeemer/mp3
sharing dir: /home/redeemer/mp3

Connection Preferencing:

That's about it - I am not sure what is stopping me from downloading... I hope I have provided enough information here for somebody to help me out :)

Thanks in advance, looking forward to a reply,

WOW - info overload

Upload speed = 100%

Doesn't that mean your giving all your bandwidth to uploading and non to downloading - or have I got it wrong.

Can anybody out there confirm this. Yes / No ?

Re: Downloading Probs in Linux (plz help)

Hi,
Just to compare notes, I'm having the same problem with the fonts.
Here's my jre version I'm running. What version and build of java(sdk or jre) are you running.

Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1-b24)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1-b24, mixed mode)

You might need to add the path to your jre

export PATH=$PATH:/path/to/jre/bin

here's what my PATH looks like
/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/games:/usr/games:/usr/java/jre1.3.1/bin

It works fine under 8.1(cooker). Though it does seems sometimes when connecting that it hangs or stalls. I lowered the amount of connections to 2 on mine and it seems to be handling the traffic alright now. Sometimes you have to clear all connections and reconnect to different servers to get a consistent connection.

Mandrake version:
Linux version 2.4.8-5mdk (chmou@no.mandrakesoft.com) (gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release / Linux-Mandrake 8.1)) #1 Wed Aug 15 00:31:51 CEST 2001
