Is /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2-sun/bin/ in your path?

In what path?

type 'echo $PATH'

if java isn't there add it 'export PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2-sun/bin/' (this is temporary, modify /etc/profile to make it permanent)

then try installing the rpm again
