Installing java

I know it's not directly a limewire problem, but I'm having problems installing the jre that i downloaded from the sun site limewire sent me to. I don't seem to be able to install limewire without java, and my linux experiance is still small. Whenever I try to install java, from any of the files I could find I get the message : "bad interpreter: permission denied".
I have a feeling that this is something simple I'm overlooking, but I havent been able to figure anything out. I'm using Mandrake 8.1, and anyone with some advice would be greatly appreciated.

Reading the installation instruction always helps.

I'm not a l33t Linux user, but I believe that you forgot to run the following command:

chmod a+x <java installer file name>

Do that before executing the installer - it gives permission to the file to be executed.
