uninstall java

I'm new to linux, how do I uninstall java, have no idea about uninstalling in linux, can't get limewire to work or find java. cant get java version to come up but Netscape 6.2 tells me java version 1.3 is available in the java console, running Mandrake 8.1. I have been to appropriate sites etc. cant, get any relief. spent hours.
