Installation

When I tried to install LimeWire in Redhat Linux 7.1:
[root@localhost Desktop]# ./LimeWireLinux.bin
Preparing to install...
Extracting the installation resources from the installer archive...
Configuring the installer for this system's environment...
No Java virtual machine could be found from your PATH
environment variable. You must install a VM prior to
running this program.

I have installed the j2re1.4.0 from sun
What can I do to fix this?

Check the FAQ !

Refer to section 2-5. You'd be surprised at what you'll find in the FAQ. Too bad nobody reads it :(

Why doesn't LimeWire.com have a link to that FAQ? Their installation instruction for LimeWire Linux is really pathetic!

I had exactly the same problem... I checked that cryptic FAQ...

This is what I did which solved the problem:

Just append the following to "/etc/profile"

PATH=$PATH:<path to jre bin dir>

I installed the Java Runtime Environment into /usr/lib/, so in my case the line would read:

PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib/jre1.3.1_02/bin

Then I restarted the system. Check if it worked by typing:

java -version

If you see a proper JRE version output, you're set to start the LimeWire installer.

Err, sorry... the first PATH should have been:

PATH=$PATH:/path/to/jre/bin
